Appetizer
When a band from The Hague entered the stage, my dad and I were like "Uh, what?" The three guys weren't that remarkable. What struck me most, was the girl: ginger hair with a very straight cut and a simple red dress. I actually suspected she was a choirgirl, but nothing of that. She took a bass guitar and had so much voice, that she blew you away. Refreshing. It's too bad I didn't take any pictures of them. The lead singer looked like he had adhd or was on pills. Really, some people say Matthew Bellamy moves around a lot while being on stage, but this guy… Apparently, this was his style. Speaking of which, they had their own sound (especially the girl added something to that), and performed in a way that I haven't seen before. They left us with a good mood, hungry for more.
So, now some complaining. Some time between acts is fine. We could get a drink and cool down a bit. But after half an hour, we started to become more impatient (it wasn't just us). In the end, it took about 45 minutes before the real show started. Maintenance problems.
Deceived
Enough complaining. At the beginning, the hall was quite half-empty and we were a bit worried that it would stay like that. Wrong. It was full, almost crammed. The best thing of all was that almost everyone was a real fan, singing along with all songs. The atmosphere was perfect.
After having been to concerts of Muse, shows are a bit disappointing sometimes. Of course, the music is the most important thing, yet I love the extra entertainment. Even though Golden Earring's setting wasn't as advanced and extravagant as Muse's, their show was marvellous. They took their own lighting and such, which was probably the right thing to do: it suited the show very well. The lighting was perfectly adjusted to the music, specifically the drums. I loved it. You could not only hear (and feel!) them, but technically see it as well.
That is what this band is. You don't expect that these grey-haired men can rock that way: 1,5 hours without a break, and it's not like they're still in their twenties (but in their sixties). What a performance! The end of the show was the cherry on top: Radar Love. Lots of solo's, and I especially loved the drum solo. What a power, coordination, and sounds. Even after such an intense song, they came back for an encore. A band of all time, polished like a diamond. A band that everyone should see.
